Friends of Birkenhead Kennels

Stray kennel facility helping rehome stray & unwanted dogs of Wirral since 2014.

Freddy needs an active home, despite his age he is still a very spritely dog and loves his walks and playtime.

He is very into his toys and doesn't always like to share, but we're gradually teaching him to alternate between toys. Freddy loves company and has shown signs of separation anxiety within a kennel environment so further work may be needed with this initially to help settle & adjust. Freddy came into our care very unsure & bewildered, but with a bit of time & patience he's finally showing how entertaining and loving he can be. He can get over excited on walks and will react to other dogs. Freddy is fully vaccinated, microchipped and will be neutered before going to his new home.

David is a gorgeous 2-year-old Staffordshire Bull Terrier cross who is still searching for his very own comfy sofa to curl up on.

He is an incredibly affectionate boy who simply loves being around people and will happily take every opportunity for a cuddle. Once he gets to know you, his loving nature really shines through.

When David first arrived with us, he was a little nervous and it seemed that he hadn't had much socialisation or experience of the wider world. Thankfully, he has settled really well and is becoming more confident every day. He is now thoroughly enjoying his walks with our wonderful volunteers and discovering all the good things life has to offer.

David can live with another dog, although there are some requirements. He cannot live with a male bull breed, and any female dog in the home must be neutered. He can also live with dog-savvy children aged 10 and over.

David does show signs of separation anxiety, so his new family will need to be patient and understanding and be prepared to help him gradually build confidence when left alone. He will need someone who can give him the time, reassurance and consistency he deserves.

In return, David has so much love to give. He is looking for a family who will help him continue to blossom, show him that the world is a wonderful place and, most importantly, give him the loving forever home he has been waiting for.

RESCUE / EXPERIENCED HOME NEEDED

We are desperately looking for the right home or rescue placement for Milo, a 4-year-old small Spaniel cross who has now been signed over to us and urgently needs a special, experienced home.

Milo’s good points:

• Loving, affectionate and friendly

• Loves his walks

• Non-reactive to other dogs while out walking

• Quirky, funny and full of personality

• Absolutely loves his treats!

• Has so much potential to become an amazing companion

Milo’s main issue is resource guarding.

He can guard things he considers high value, including treats, toys, objects and spaces. This can be inconsistent and varies depending on the situation, but his behaviour is generally very easy to read.

Milo needs a home with genuine experience of resource guarding — someone who understands the importance of management, boundaries and balanced training, and who is confident enough to recognise and respond appropriately to his behaviour.

Must be willing to work alongside a qualified trainer/behaviourist and put the necessary time, patience and consistency into helping Milo.

No harsh training methods. These can make guarding behaviour worse. Milo needs calm, patient and experienced handling, using appropriate reward-based methods and careful management.

Milo’s requirements:

• Experienced with resource guarding/behavioural issues

• Willing to work with a trainer/behaviourist

• Patient, confident and committed

• Able to provide the structure and management he needs

Milo is not a bad dog. He is a lovely, affectionate boy who has a behavioural issue that needs to be properly understood and managed. With the right person, we genuinely believe he has the potential to be a truly amazing dog.

Mini is a bright, busy little girl who’s full of character and always on the go. We’re looking for a very active, experienced home for her, where she’ll get plenty of exercise, structure and training.

Mini absolutely loves her cuddles and is a sweet, confident girl with people. She can, however, be feisty and quite vocal around other dogs as she hasn’t been properly socialised yet, so she’ll need an owner who can work patiently on her training and manners. She is still mouthing when she gets excited, so any new home should be comfortable continuing her training in this area too.

In the right home, Mini will be a fun, loving companion and a real little star. If you’re experienced, active and ready to put in the time she needs, Mini will reward you with lots of love and laughter.

Kenny and Midge are a sweet, affectionate pair who are looking for a loving home together. They’re a bonded couple, so we’re looking for an active, sociable home that has plenty of time to give them both the attention and dedication they deserve.

They love their walks and really enjoy being around people, so they’ll thrive with a family who can include them in daily life and adventures. Kenny does have some allergies, but these are easily managed and not costly. We’re happy to chat this through with anyone interested, and we’d hate for this to put you off our lovely boy.

Kenny is already neutered, and Midge will be spayed at a later date. In the right home, Kenny and Midge will be a loving, loyal duo who bring double the joy and cuddles.
